About Us
The pieces that live on the dish by the door
Most jewellery boxes contain two things: a small group that goes on almost every morning, and everything else.
The everyday group is rarely the most expensive. It's the pieces that don't need a decision — that go with what you're already wearing, don't catch on a jumper, and don't have to come off before you do the washing up.
The rest waits for occasions that keep not arriving.
That everyday group is what we buy for. Not the statement piece for one evening. The ones that quietly become part of getting dressed.
What separates the two
Rarely the design. Usually three things nobody puts on a product page.
Whether it survives being worn. A piece you take off before washing your hands, before the gym, before bed, is a piece you'll stop wearing. Water resistance and plating durability decide that, and they're specifications — not opinions.
Weight, and where it sits. A necklace that looks delicate in a photograph can be heavy enough to shift all day. An earring that photographs beautifully can drag on the lobe by lunchtime. Weight is in the specification and tells you more than any image.
Whether it plays well with others. Most people layer. A chain that only works alone is competing with everything else you own — including the pieces you already wear every day.
What we look for
Materials that suit skin. Nickel-free where it matters, and base metals that don't react. Sensitive ears are common, and the specification predicts the outcome before you find out the hard way.
Clasps and findings that don't fail first. The part that gives way is almost never the piece itself — it's the clasp, the jump ring or the earring post. They're the cheapest components to skimp on and the hardest to see in a photograph, so we check them first.
Something you'd wear on a Tuesday. Not just for the occasion. The one that goes on without a decision being made.
Plenty doesn't clear that list. That's why the collection stays small enough that we can tell you something specific about every piece.
What we're honest about
Plating is plating. Where a piece is gold-plated rather than solid, we say so — and we say how thick the plating is, because that's what determines whether it lasts a season or years. "Gold-tone" and "solid gold" are different products at different prices, and blurring the line is how people end up disappointed.
Not everything is suitable for everyone. If you react to certain metals, tell us before you order and we'll say honestly whether a piece works for you.
What we don't do
Chase trends. Jewellery outlives the season it was bought in, which is exactly why buying into a trend is expensive.
Inflate prices to discount them. The price is the price. It doesn't go up in September so it can come down in November.
Overclaim. A necklace won't change your life. What good jewellery does is quieter — you put it on and forget about it. No adjusting, no catching, no wondering by the afternoon whether it's still sitting right.
Ask us before you order
Not sure about a length, whether something suits sensitive skin, or how a piece will sit with what you already wear?
Email us. Tell us what you're deciding between and we'll answer from having handled it — including when the honest answer is that a piece is lighter than it looks, or that a chain sits shorter than the measurement suggests.
We'd rather give good advice than process a return.
